As with all large stores of its kind, online department store very.co.uk has a very large section of its website dedicated to all things to do with furniture and home ware. There is in fact a big sale in the furniture shop at very.co.uk and items that are up for grabs at a very reduced price include rugs and flooring, tables, bedding and bed accessories, cushions, curtains and throws for furniture. All these things are part of very.co.uk’s winter sale, and they have been reduced in price.

Nearly everything in the furniture department on very.co.uk has had its price cut by a huge amount, as part of the furniture sale. One example of a huge price cut is on the large selection of flooring and rugs that are available. Because it is a department store these kinds of things were not that expensive in the first place, but as a result of the furniture sale wooden and laminate flooring, as well as a large selection of rugs, all have had around £100 knocked from their price.

With regards to bedding, there are seventy five pieces available to be bought for a reduced price in the furniture sale. One example is an extremely luxurious black velvet throw, which can be used to over the top of a normal quilt cover when it is cold on long winter nights. Providing a warm and restful night’s sleep for the customer is what very.co.uk wants to do with this throw, and it is now available for a reduced price in the furniture sale.

There are a large number of other pieces that are available in the furniture sale, aside from these examples that have already been pointed out. A wide variety of other home accessories are on offer, including mirrors, vases and wall hangings. There are also wall paintings and canvases for sale, as well as a very large number of storage devices.

I had purchased a new mattresses as my old one was giving me trouble. My old mattress had started sagging and was giving me back pain, sleepless nights and would make me toss and turn during the night. I bought two single mattresses from Duroflex and they are made from natural fiber. My new mattress turned out to be expensive compared to the earlier one, but this time around I opted for a thick mattress, which is neither very soft nor very hard. Since changing the mattress, my back problem has disappeared and now I can have restful sleep and wake up feeling well rested. I would surely recommend this mattress to anyone who is suffering from back problems of those who suffer from stiff and cold shoulder. I do not like extremely hard mattresses, so had opted for a semi-hard one, and I have found that my new mattress is perfect for me. I had bought two single mattresses since the salesperson at the store had recommended buying two instead of taking a single double bed mattress, and his logic was that a double bed mattress tends to break from the center and become useless pretty soon.

Is it time to change the decoration in your home? Is the thought of the cost preventing you from doing so? The cost of redecorating doesn’t have to be an expensive one. With a little planning and careful choices you can revamp your home for less.

Neutral colours, tones and textures have one main advantage above all the rest. As they are natural colours such as beiges, tones of brown and hints of off-whites, they will not date or go past there fashion era. Also, it is a lot easier to work with a plain canvas than that of a wild floral bright design that looks good one minute and becomes a little too much the next.

Decorating your home for less can indeed be done on a very low budget. It might be a case of changing the cushion covers and opting for a new rug. Going for a monochromatic colour scheme instead of the mishmash that currently resides in the house is a better option and a lot easier to spruce up with the odd accent colour. De-cluttering your home can immediately create the illusion that you have redecorated. Less is best and more an eyesore.

Warm ambiental features such as candles, mobiles and dried flower arrangements do a lot to bring your home en vogue with current trends yet stay typically natural and in tune with nature.

Repainting any furniture pieces with a fancy paint finish effect or stencil can transform a previously boring piece into an interesting work of art. Loose free flowing voiles allow plenty of light to enter and thin sheers create than fresher newer feeling.

Browse through interior design magazine to steal ideas and wherever you can…improvise.

Memory foam, also known as slow release foam, was developed originally by a Swedish company for no less than NASA. It was used by NASA because of its ability to distribute pressure across the entire surface. It was later used in medical applications but was far too expensive for use in the home market.

This visco-elastic foam has since become much cheaper to produce and is now a common form of mattress for the modern bedroom. It has proved to be increasingly popular in the UK and is mainly seen in products such as mattresses, pillows, cushions and even footwear.

The main appeal of a memory foam mattress is the fact that it offers and provides more support. It is much denser than an ordinary mattress and therefore much heavier. An alternative to an entire or complete memory foam mattress is a memory foam topper or pad which can be added to a regular mattress.

There are two main brands of memory foam readily available. They are Isotonic and Tempur-Pedic and both come in various densities and grades. The most expensive grade of memory foam mattresses will be termed a premium grade.

The memory foam works by moulding itself to the shape of the body at room temperature. It is a temperature sensitive visco-elastic material and will mould itself and hold to a shape temporarily. Therefore your weight is evenly distributed across the whole mattress which prevents the build up of pressure in one spot, which can cause pain. Memory foam mattresses are often recommended by physicians for people that suffer with bad back pain. They have been proved to be of substantial benefit offering a good night’s sleep.

Lighting, at its most basic, is simply a means to illuminate a room so that we can see our way around. When used imaginatively lighting can highlight features, define shapes, reveal colours, enhance textures and create a feeling of space.

Your chosen means of lighting a room can make or break the overall effect you have worked so hard to achieve. If the lights are too bright you automatically lose the intimacy. If the lights are too dull, a room can become gloomy, and you lose the beauty of carefully chosen furnishings. Successful lighting must be carefully planned and considered.

Lighting must of course be in keeping with the general decorative style of a room. It should enhance not overpower and it is best to aim for lighting to be practical, adaptable and subtle. Firstly it should be functional and secondly it should be decorative.

Before chooses any lighting you should assess the degree and quality of existing natural light and then the layout of existing electric light sources and switching arrangements.

Lighting has five main categories. They are; general lighting which needs to be supplemented with complementary lighting, task lighting which is specifically designed to illuminate activities/hobbies, purpose lighting which are lights installed in places where no light at all would be dangerous i.e. a staircase, design lighting which can highlight treasured objets d’art and lastly decorative lighting which has fittings chosen mainly for their attractive appearance.

It cannot be too strongly stressed that it is essential to buy the right fabric for the job in hand; otherwise you will be wasting not only money for the material itself but also for the trimmings, linings and actual making-up.

The choice of curtain fabric is immense but not all fabrics function in the same way or have the same life span and durability. Some materials launder better than other: some require dry-cleaning only. Some are resistant to sunlight: some fade and even rot when constantly exposed to the atmosphere.

Fabric is made up from natural or man-made (synthetic) fibres, or from blends and each with varying grades of durability. It is important to read the manufacturers label when buying fabric particularly the cleaning instructions.

Some natural fibres shrink if not pre-washed; cotton is a good example of this. Some synthetic fibres fray badly if not stitched or hemmed correctly i.e. viscose.

If you are unsure about possible shrinkage, wash your fabric before sewing. Remember to wash with it the trimmings etc. When hemming your curtains allow for a generous hem, loosely stitched so it can be easily altered if any shrinkage has occurred. However, if in doubt it may be a wise idea to go along to a dry cleaner.

When purchasing your fabric buy a small sample first and then match this against the rest of your décor. Check all fabric lengths for flaws, spoils and ensure that the pattern runs square.

The introduction of pattern and texture in an interior design project is the most enjoyable aspect of completing and putting together a project. Pattern is very personal. Some of us prefer masses of pattern whereas others avoid all but the unobtrusive.

A general warning when incorporating pattern is to be careful when combining various different patterns in the same area. Flair and experience is essential in order to combine patterns together successfully. The golden rule here is: if in doubt, leave it out.

Like colours, patterns evoke their own moods. Geometric patterns complement many of the stark, angular pieces of furniture currently available, whilst more flowery, chintzy styles suit a fully-upholstered look.

Many patterns are available in several different colour ways. Study carefully pattern books in a large interior design showroom and observe the difference colouring makes to a design.

Colour can alter the visual temperature as well as the look of the material. Large patterns like certain colours will appear to advance and should be avoided when trying to create a feeling of space.

Texture on the other hand is often forgotten although it is an extremely useful way to create interest in an otherwise dull scheme. Try to contrast textures: the smooth surface of stainless steel against the roughness of hessian; the mellow coarseness of brickwork against the smooth sheen of polished natural wood. Many of the textures in interior design are natural materials: wood, cork, slate, cane, brick and marble. These all lend themselves to natural, tone-on-tone colour schemes to produce calming, restful rooms without a “fashion” element that may date.

Almost every design project has its problems. There is either too much space or adversely not enough, or the overall proportions are entirely wrong. Here are a few helpful tips which help overcome the shortcomings when dealing with space.

The first step is to take a long, hard look at the area in question and make a few notes. Analyse exactly what it is you dislike about the room and decide what it is you would like to accentuate.

Some people feel that the ceiling, particularly in an older house, is too high. They find this to be too cold and a somewhat unfriendly feature. The answer to this problem of space is to shade down the tone of the ceiling either by using a darker colour than the walls, or to paint the ceiling in an advancing, warm shade. Another option is to introduce a pattern of some kind on the ceiling as this will create an advancing quality.

On the contrary, on a modern house the ceiling may seem too low for comfort. To overcome this problem you could use a light shade of paint. You can create a recessive or retreating effect with a cool hue such as a pale blue or green.

When dealing with a large space it can create a cold or intimidating feeling. The trick here is to create islands within the room and avoid spreading the furniture around the walls. Rugs are a good idea to break up an expanse area of carpet and provide added warmth. Large scale furniture will also help to tone down the scale of the room.

The most common complaint is that of too little space, when a room is too small. Large items of furniture should be replaced with smaller items. Low seating such as chesterfields will allow the eye to wonder. Creating a horizontal stress and light colours on both the ceiling and walls will help work towards a feeling of more space.
